With his death a pillar of socialism is gone, era of struggle comes to an end: CM Yogi on demise of Mulayam Singh Yadav

Chief Minister announced a three-day state mourning as a mark of respect to the Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav

Lucknow, October 10, 2022: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday mourned the death of the founder of Samajwadi Party and veteran leader Mulayam Singh Yadav and also called former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav to convey his condolences on behalf of the state government.

In addition, the Chief Minister declared a three-day period of state mourning in honour of Mulayam Singh Yadav. The final rituals of the founder of the SP will be performed with full state honours, per directions from CM Yogi.

The Chief Minister travelled to Saifai on Monday evening and paid respects to Mulayam Singh Yadav’s mortal remains. Here, he offered the grieving family his sincere sympathies and instructed the officials on the last rites on Tuesday. BJP State President Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary and Jal Shakti Minister Swatantra Dev Singh also remained present. The Chief Minister also offered floral tributes to the mortal remains of Mulayam Singh Yadav on the behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Governor Anandiben Patel.

Main pillar of socialism and ‘an era of struggle’ have come to an end

Mulayam Singh Yadav, 81, had been ill for a long time and was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Gurugram. On the evening of October 1, he was admitted to the ICU. As his condition didn’t get better, he was put on a ventilator.

Soon after learning about the demise of the SP founder, CM Yogi tweeted, “The death of former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and Samajwadi Party Founder Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav ji is extremely sad. With his death, the main pillar of socialism and ‘an era of struggle’ have come to an end.”

“I wish peace to the departed soul and send my condolences to the bereaved family and supporters”, he added.

Lived a life of hardship, remained centre of state politics for five decades

The Chief Minister said that the death of the SP leader has caused grief throughout the state. Mulayam Singh Yadav was a leader with a fighting spirit. “He was an important pillar of the ‘Samajwadi ideology’. He was also the centre of state politics for five decades. He also led his party in the Vidhan Sabha and Vidhan Parishad and led the state three times as Chief Minister. He also served as India’s defence minister and a 7-time Member of Parliament,” said Yogi.

CM issues Instructions for funeral with state honour

All the proposals of the cabinet meeting postponed for the time-being

Earlier, during the state government’s cabinet meeting, ministers mourned the passing away of former Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav. The cabinet ministers led by the CM paid respect to the late Mulayam Singh Yadav and sent their condolences to the grieving family. All the cabinet proposals have been postponed by the government for the time being.

Had close relations with political opponents

Mulayam Singh Yadav maintained close relations with the leaders of the opposition parties despite being a strong socialist (samajwadi) leader. He shared a cordial bond with former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath.

Yogi Adityanath visited Mulayam Singh Yadav at his residence multiple times after taking office as chief minister and continued to look out for his well being. At the same time, CM Yogi also received the affection of Mulayam Singh Yadav. Mulayam Singh Yadav had personally congratulated Yogi Adityanath on becoming the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh again.
