#LAWDA trends on Twitter: Know what it is & the reason behind; netizens in splits, share memes

On Thrusday morning, ‘hashtag LAWDA’ has been trending on Twitter. It has utterly confused netizens as to how to react to the trend.

New Delhi: Netizens woke up on Thursday to a surprising trend on Twitter “hashtag LAWDA”. The reason for this trending word is nothing that you are thinking. It’s actually the acronym of Lakes and Water Development Authority (LAWDA).

Lakes and Water Development Authority (LAWDA) has taken up the responsibility of cleaning up the Dal Lake in Srinagar. Last year, Kashmir Lakes and Waterways Development Authority started the task to clean the Dal Lake, however, it was stopped due to the outbreak of Covid-19. Currently, the High Court directed LAWDA to submit a project report on Dal Lake.

LAWDA targets to clean weeds like lily pads, creepers, and other waste material present in the lake to smoothen the passageway for Shikara and enhance the aesthetic beauty of the lake. The cleaning is done by using machines and manpower.

ANI tweeted about the cleanliness drive, this morning. It stated, “The cleanliness drive of Dal Lake is in full swing in Srinagar. The drive was paused last year due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) has taken the initiative to clean Dal Lake (29.09).”

Senior lawyer and Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi also made request, asking the Jammu and Kashmir authorities to change or amend the name of LAWDA.
