[WATCH] Escaping thief stucks in hole after looting ornaments from Andhra temple, held

Rao had entered the temple through a small window and all the silver ornaments of the idols of deities worth 20 grams of weight in total.

New Delhi: In what can be called a case of divine justice, a thief while escaping after looting ornaments and other valuables from a temple in Andhra Pradesh, got stuck in a hole he dug for himself in order to flee after the robbery.

Moreover, the thief was caught in the act after he himself started shouting for help when all his efforts to get out of the narrow hole went in vain.

The incident took place in the Jadimudi village of Kanchili Mandal, in the coastal district of Srikakulam. The man has been identified as R Papa Rao, who is said to be addicted to liquor.

Rao had entered the temple through a small window and all the silver ornaments of the idols of deities worth 20 grams of weight in total.

Several pictures and a video clip of this incident have surfaced on social media, wherein Rao can be seen stuck in the hole that he dug for himself to escape the scene.

Check out the viral video here:

Locals were first confused when they first saw Rao hanging halfway through the wall and were able to figure out the situation only when he pleaded them to help him while narrating the whole incident. A man recording the video can be heard saying that the man did this “out of greed” and “now can’t get in or go out”.

The locals informed the cops who got to the temple and pushed the 30-year-old from the other end of the wall opening. After being freed, Rao was taken into custody.

“He was stuck for about 15 minutes. We went and got him out and took him into custody,” sub-inspector Chiranjeevi said.
