Can Kohli break Sachin’s record of 100 centuries? Gavaskar says ‘yes’ but with this rider

Gavaskar told a news channel, “if Virat Kohli maintains his form and fitness and plays international cricket till 40 years of age, he can smash Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 100 international hundreds.”

New Delhi: Virat Kohli’s return to the sublime form after a long spell of dull & lackluster phase is being hailed
by lakhs & crores of cricket fans while the cricketing greats are again on the table predicting his future.

With Kohli shattering record of Sachin Tendulkar, the social media as well as cricketing fraternity is abuzz talking about his astounding form and also debating whether he will outlive the God of Cricket, in setting new milestones.

Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar was quick to predict that there lied very much a possibility of Virat overtaking Sachin in setting batting records.

Gavaskar however had a rider in his predictions. He told a news channel, “if Virat Kohli maintains his form and fitness and plays international cricket till 40 years of age, he can smash Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 100 international hundreds.”

He, however, was quite optimistic about such possibility as Virat Kohli has maintained his fitness to commendable levels and hence achieving the record 100th 100 doesn’t look far-fetched task.

Kohli’s superb show against Lanka

Virat Kohli has been on fire in the ongoing ODI series against Sri Lanka. He has been smashing tons of runs via his explosive batting. On Sunday, he scored his 46th ODI international ton and his 21st ton at home. This took him ahead of Sachin’s tally of 20 centuries at home.

..

Now, Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 tons in International ODIs also stands at risk of getting breached as Virat is just 3 shorter of them now.

In last match against Lanka, he became the first player to score fastest 150 runs. He hit century in 85 balls but then went berserk after that and scored 166* off 110.

A recall of his poor form shows, there was a time when Kohli didn’t a score a single century for 3 consecutive years between August 2019 and November 2022.
