New Delhi: After today’s dismissal by Pat Cummins during the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2021 between Australia and West Indies, Chris Gayle seemingly bid adieu to international cricket as he walked towards the dressing room. Though nothing has been confirmed by the legendary player, his gesture of raising bat towards his fans clearly hinted that he was retiring from international cricket. He was also seen distributing his gloves to the fans at the stand.
The left-handed batsman was securing a good score with his bat at a strike rate of 150 before getting knocked out by hitting the stumps. He scored 15 runs off 9 deliveries.
Meanwhile, Dwayne Bravo has confirmed that he will be retiring from international cricket after today’s match. This is the second time when Bravo has retired from international cricket.
Gayle, popularly known as the “Universe Boss” is a two-time World Cup-winning player. He has secured 1899 runs in 79 T20Is. His average amounts to 28.11 with a strike rate of 137.31. In his total scoreboard, he has 2 centuries and 14 half-centuries. He has also grabbed 19 wickets in this format of cricket. He always remained a regular opener who batted at number 3 except in World Cup 2021.
Gayle is regarded as one of the best batsmen of the shortest format. He leads the run-scoring charts with 14306 runs in 452 matches. None has achieved runs over 12,000. Though he won’t be playing for West Indies again, his fans can see him at overseas leagues.
Since 2014, Gayle has not played any test matches. His last appearance in the ODI series was in 2019. The player has secured 7,214 runs in 103 Tests and 10,480 runs 301 ODIs. He has also been an international captain.
Following Gayle’s farewell walk from the international cricket, netizens have been pouring in congratulatory and warm wishes for him:

It’s been some time wanting him to get off his shoes after seeing his struggles all through these years. But hope of witnessing another Gayle carnage creeps up everytime I see him on the crease. Will miss him especially those in RCB colours.
