New Delhi: After England lost out to Italy in the Euro 2020 finals, a couple of English players came under direct attack of soccer fans and followers. The flurry of anger and fury got directed mainly 3 players, apparently the black English ones – namely Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Bukayo Saka. They received a volley of racial slurs on their social media handles.
The players had missed the penalties in the Euro cup 2020 to Itlay on 11th July. Plenty of fans took to the social media accounts of these players and started bombarding them with racial slurs. They received a stream of ‘monkey emojis’ and other racial remarks. A Mural of Rashford was also vandalized by the angered fans.
After hatred, outpouring of love & support
UK Prime Minister took to Twitter to denounce the racial abuse of the players of the Euro Cup 2020 team. He wrote on his Tweet, “This England team deserves to be lauded as heroes, not racially abused on social media. Those responsible for this appalling abuse should be ashamed of themselves”

Many netizens however endeared the players with outpouring love and support, rejecting the racing attacks. Celebrities like American Tennis Player Naomi Osaka and Marvel Superhero Tom Holland wrote against the indecent behavior of English fans and stood in solidarity with the England Players.
