Harbhajan Singh calls for China boycott, says he won’t endorse Chinese products in future

“Many people point out that celebrities endorse many products; I can assure you, I won’t be among them. In the absence of Chinese sponsors, there could be many others. We have to decide whether the IPL is bigger or the brand. IPL doesn’t need any brand, IPL in itself is a big brand,” said Harbhajan.

New Delhi: Amid the simmering anger and rising clamour for ban on Chinese products, cricketer Harbhajan Singh has become first celebrity to call for boycott ‘Made in China’ goods.

“If we want to be self-reliant, the boycott is probably the right thing. Everything can be made in India. We have a lot of capabilities. If we want to ban Chinese goods, we should. If they are attacking India and our soldier brothers, then ban their goods. Why should their country run via our money? I am with all those who say Chinese products should be banned,” he told Sportstar in an Instagram chat.

‘Won’t endorse Chinese products in future’

Harbhajan added that he wouldn’t endorse chinese products in the future, while saying IPL should also look at Indian brands for sponsorship.

On June 15th night, 20 Indian Army soldiers were martyred during a violent face-off with the Chinese troops in Galwan Valley in Ladakh.

Meanwhile, The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also decided to review its sponsorship deal with VIVO, a Chinese mobile company. In a tweet on Friday evening, BCCI announced that the IPL governing council will meet next week to review IPL’s sponsorship deal.
