India vs Bangladesh 1st Test: Bangladesh’s this ‘Action’ can see them getting penalised; Know More…

Bangladesh cricket team can be penalised under the 16.11.2 of the ICC World Test Championship due to the 10 over deficit at the end of Day 1.

New Delhi: Day 1 of the India vs Bangladesh Test match saw the game progress in a sea-saw fashion as both teams had their moments throughout the day. While Bangladesh had a sensational opening spell, with Hasan Mahmud ripping apart the Indian top order, India counter-attacked with Ravichandran Ashwin registering his sixth test century (currently unbeaten on 107 runs).

Ashwin’s innings paved the way for a great recovery of the Indian innings and took the game away from the grasp of Bangladesh. While the pendulum has shifted in the favour of the Bangla Tigers, a more pressing issue is gripping Shanto and Co.

Bangladesh’s added worries…

While Bangladesh have lost their hold in the game, a bigger issue must be bothering the side as it was 10 overs short of the target despite getting a half-an-hour extension in bowling. This might see the side getting penalised by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

ICC WTC rules

A team will have one (1) World Test Championship competition point deducted from its points total for each Penalty Over it incurs during the Round Stage.

The Tigers bowled 23 overs in the first session, 25 in the second and 32 in the final session of Day 1. However, this also couldn’t prevent the team from falling short of 10 overs despite being given a 30-minute extension in the bowling. ICC which is the governing body of international cricket might see this as a breach of rules and give Bangladesh a penalty of 3 WTC points.
