India vs England: Captain Eoin Morgan ruled out of final two ODIs against India

New Delhi: England team’s captain Eoin Morgan was ruled out of the final two One-Day Internationals (ODIs) on Thursday because of an injury against India.

One of England’s key players Sam Billings will also be unavailable for their second match of the series on Friday. The decision is yet to be made on his availability for the 3rd ODI on Sunday.

Jos Buttler will be taking the duty of England’s captaincy in the absence of Morgan and Liam Livingstone will be making his ODI debut.

Morgan sustained split webbing between his index finger and his thumb on the series opener match held on Tuesday, the injury required four stitches.

On Thursday, The captain proceeded with a fielding drill at MCA Stadium and afterward proclaimed that he is unfit for the competition.

“I had the hand re-dressed before the start of training today but it quickly became apparent that I found myself protecting the injury and getting into the wrong positions to catch the ball,” The captain stated.

“There’s nowhere to hide on the field in international cricket these days, especially in limited-over formats so it didn’t require any great thought to make myself unavailable.”

“It was a freak injury and it’s extremely frustrating but there’s nothing I can do about it. It’s now just a case of letting the cut heal. I have every confidence in Jos and the rest of the squad coping without me.”

Billings did not attend the training session on Thursday after a bruised left collar bone injury in the opening match.

Dawid Malan has been drafted into the squad and now available for selection.
