New Delhi: The eight Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises will be able to retain a maximum of four players while the two new teams can pick three players from the rest of the cricketers in the pool ahead of the 2022 auction.

The two new Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises — Lucknow and Ahmedabad were allotted a budget of Rs 33 crore to pick three players who go back into the pool before the mega auction begins.

In the mail sent by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to all the franchises, accessed by ANI, the rules were formally conveyed and the salary purse for all the teams was set at Rs 90 crore.

The purse for the next IPL auction is likely to be INR 90 crore

The amount is an increase from the IPL 2021 auction as then the purse was of Rs 85 crore. The eight existing franchises (CSK, KKR, RCB, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings, and SunRisers Hyderabad) have been allowed to retain up to four players.

Deadlines for retention:

The deadline for existing teams will be until November 30.

Two new teams can pick their players from December 1-25.

Retention rules:

If one of the eight existing franchises decides to retain four players, then they will be debited Rs 16 crore for the first player, Rs 12 crore for the second player, Rs 8 crore for the third player, and Rs 6 crore for the fourth player and the total deduction will be 42 crore

Which team will retain whom?

Chennai Super Kings: After MS Dhoni, CSK is likely to retain Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja. For foreign player retention Moeen Ali, Sam Curran and Faf du Plessis can be the choice. As per Cricbuzz, CSK will try to buy the players back in the auction they fail to retain.

Mumbai Indians: Apart from Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Ishan Kishan will be the first choice. For foreign player retention, five-time champions Kieron Pollard will be a part of an internal debate.

Delhi Capitals: Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw, Axar Patel, and Anrich Nortje/Kagiso Rabada will be at the top of the DC’s retention list. Avesh Khan will be a part of a big decision as he has done well in the past.

Royal Challengers Bangalore: Apart from Virat Kohli, Devdutt Paiddikal, Yuzvendra Chahal/Mohammed Siraj and Glenn Maxwell will make it to the retention list.

Sunrisers Hyderabad: Kane Williamson can be the only one who will be retained for the team. The 2nd retention could be Rahisd Khand

Rajasthan Royals: Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal are likely to be retained following RR. Sanju Samson, Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes

Punjab Kings: Yncapped players like Ravi Bishnoi and Arshdeep Singh might be retained. Apart from this Shahrukh Khan can also make it to the list.

Kolkata Knight Riders: Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine can be the prime choice. Shubman Gill and Andre Russell will also make it to the list.
