Jamaican athlete almost missed his gold medal, his ‘thanksgiving’ video to Olympics volunteer is viral

After his medal victory, Hansle Parchment also tracked down the volunteer and gifted her a T-shirt. He also returned the money and showed her the medal he won in the sprint.

New Delhi: While the world battles Covid-19, Tokyo Olympics provided a much-needed escape from the menace as people across the globe got a chance to cheer for their team & players. Many heart-warning stories emerged from the Olympics village that won people’s hearts. But, this one is extra special.

Hansle Parchment, gold medallist in the Olympics, won the men’s 110 metre hurdle race event and also scored a season best timing of 13.04 seconds on Aug 5. But, he actually missed his medal had a volunteer wouldn’t have come to his rescue at the right time.

The Jamaican athlete posted a video on his Instagram, narrating how he nearly missed the event after boarding the wrong bus and reached one of the aquatics stadiums. It was then the volunteer came forward, gave him money for taxi and also showed him the right route. The Jamaican sprinter not only competed but also won a gold medal.

In his video, the athlete also tagged the woman in his post and said that Japanese are the sweetest people.

“The Japanese people are the sweetest ever. Thank you my friend @d_treefairy,” Parchment captioned the video.

The Jamaican sprinter was told to go back to Olympic village and take another bus to the stadium. Had he done that, he would surely missed the event.

After his medal victory, Hansle Parchment also tracked down the volunteer and gifted her a T-shirt. He also returned the money and showed her the medal he won in the sprint.
