New Delhi: New Zealand Cricket has agreed to release Trent Boult from the central contract. The pacer has taken this step, in order to spend more time with his family. This, however, does not mean that Boult is retiring from international cricket.
New Zealand Cricket has made it clear that they will give priority in selection to the players who are in the central contract. This indicates that the fans might not see Boult in the Kiwi jersey often from now on. Though the pacer will be available for the domestic leagues.
Talking about this decision, Boult said, “This has been a really tough decision for me and I’d like to thank NZC for their support in getting to this point.” The cricketer added that playing for the Blackcaps was his childhood dream and he is proud of everything he has achieved with the team over the past 12 years. Talking about his family, Boult said that ultimately the decision is about his wife Gret and their three sons He added that the family has been a motivator in his journey and he is preparing to keep them as a priority as he is looking forward to his life after cricket.
Though he has not said anything directly, he talking about life after cricket indicates that the cricketer has some retirement plans in mind.
The 33-year-old has played 78 tests and 137 white-ball games for New Zealand, taking 548 international wickets. He played his last international game against England where he took four wickets in the first inning and none in the second.
