Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra is given the prestigious Olympic Order before Paris Olympics 2024

Abhinav Bindra, India’s first Olympic gold medalist in an individual sport has recently been conferred with the prestigious Olympic Order for his relentless commitments to the Games.

New Delhi: Abhinav Bindra, India’s first Olympic gold medalist in an individual sport has recently been conferred with the prestigious Olympic Order for his relentless commitments to the Games. The medal announced on Monday will be awarded to Bindra at the 142nd IOC Session in Paris on August 10- a day before the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics 2024.

In an official post on X (formerly Twitter), minister of Labour and Employment- Dr Mansukh Mandaviya said: “It is with great pleasure that I inform you that the IOC Executive Board has decided to award you with the Olympic Order for your outstanding services to the Olympic Movement.

What is the Olympic Order?

Olympic Order is the highest award of the International Olympic Committee which is awarded to athletes who have made exceptional contributions to the Olympic movement. The award is given to the athletes on one of the following pointers:

  • Any individual who has demonstrated the Olympic ideal through his/her action
  • Has achieved remarkable laurels in the field of sports
  • Has pledged his allegiance to the Olympic movement
