PM Modi congratulates Neeraj Chopra, says ‘his achievement will be remembered forever’

Chopra scripted history by becoming 1st from the country to win gold in track and field in the Olympics. He hurled a monstrous throw of 87.58m to pick the gold in Tokyo.

New Delhi: As javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra scripted history for India by winning gold medal at ongoing Tokyo Olympics, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the wrestler for stellar game.

“History has been scripted at Tokyo! What @Neeraj_chopra1 has achieved today will be remembered forever. The young Neeraj has done exceptionally well. He played with remarkable passion and showed unparalleled grit. Congratulations to him for winning the Gold. #Tokyo2020,” tweeted PM Modi.

Neeraj put up a stellar show in all the rounds. In 1st round, he threw 87.03, in second round he throw 87.58 while in 3rd round, his average fell down to 76.76.

He is now the second Indian after Abhinav Bindra to win a gold medal in individual events.
