New Delhi: Days after suffering a heartbreaking loss against the Australian cricket team in the finals of ICC World Cup 2023, Indian cricket has finally started to take steps for their upcoming future.
As the first step of rebuilding the structure for the next World Cup in 2027, BCCI officials, including the chief selector Ajit Agarkar are scheduled to have a meeting in the upcoming days to decide the white ball cricket future of the current captain Rohit Sharma, moving forward.

As per the reports, Rohit Sharma has already given his consent on not being considered in the T20Is as BCCI wants to invest in young blood more.
However, with Rohit getting replaced BCCI will also have to find a long-term captain to replace Rohit also.
Hardik Pandya, who was reportedly considered as the top prospect for the job, is now under scrutiny for being injury-prone.
Not much ODI for next year
Rohit Sharma, who will be almost 40 years old by the time the next ODI World Cup arrives in 2027, will have to take a serious stand, as soon as possible, because the team is only scheduled to play 6 ODI matches in the upcoming 12 months’ time.

Rohit is keen to focus on test cricket and the World Test Championship moving forward and will have to find answers for his availability and agreement of terms with BCCI before the meeting takes place.
However, ICC World Cup 2027, is not the next big ODI tournament that India is slated to play, as they will also be playing the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan, in 2025.
The discussion was before the World Cup
According to a source from BCCI, the talks about Rohit’s white ball future were on, before the start of the ODI World Cup 2023 itself.
We have to wait for the next 10 days, every picture will be cleared.
Just want to say that Rohit Sharma is not going anywhere from Test till 2025 WTC and’ll most probably play the CT too.
T20I is his own decision now, whether he wants to continue or not. Wait for next 10 days. pic.twitter.com/oFZYTDoKuq
