T20 World Cup: Here’s why PM Modi is intrigued by Rohit Sharma’s gestures…

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was intrigued by the gestures of Rohit Sharma as a mark of respect for the game.

New Delhi: After lifting the T20 World Cup, skipper Rohit Sharma bent down and touched the ground, giving him his ultimate prize as India Team captain. The Indian captain was also found to be biting the mud of the pitch from Barbados which has sent out a positive message amongst the fans.

Prime Minister Modi was also intrigued by the gestures of Rohit Sharma as a mark of respect for the game. Modi met with the entire team for a formal breakfast when the Indian team returned from the Caribbean.

After breakfast, the team headed straight for the airport where they went on to board the flight to Mumbai. In Mumbai, the BCCI had organised a grand victory parade atop an open bus. It was done on similar lines in the past when Team India won the 2007 T20 World Cup and during the 2011 World Cup.

Modi had a brilliant conversation with the entire team, felicitating the latter and getting a “NAMO” jersey from the team and the BCCI. Amongst all the conversations that happened, a very interesting episode emerged between Modi and Rohit.

According to the Indian Express which reported it, PM Modi asked the Indian skipper how mud tastes. The question was in response to the respectful gesture of Rohit at Barbados where he knelt and tasted some mud as a mark of respect. Rohit who led the team to victory in his last game in the T20Is deserves all the credit for the way he has led the team from the front.

Apart from Rohit, PM Modi was also seen in an interesting conversation with another veteran of Indian cricket, Virat Kohli. Like Rohit, Virat also bid farewell to the T20 format. PM Modi reportedly asked Virat about his mindset before the finals given that he had a hot and cold season with the bat at the ICC T20 WC.
