Tokyo Olympics: Will Mirabai Chanu get gold? Chinese weightlifter’s dope test triggers talks

China weightlifter Zhihui Hou who bagged gold in the 49 kg category will be tested by the authorities. If she fails the test, Mirabai Chanu will be awarded gold medal.

New Delhi: India’s daughter Mirabai Chanu, who brought laurels to the nation on Day 1 of Tokyo Olympics, may be India’s 1st first gold medallist, if the Chinese weightlifter is tested positive for dope.

China weightlifter Zhihui Hou who bagged gold in the 49 kg category will be tested by the authorities. If she fails the test, Mirabai Chanu will be awarded gold medal.

“Hou has been told by the Olympics authrorities to stay in Tokyo for tests. Dope test will happen soon, sources confirmed to newsmen.

As per Olympic rules, if any athlete/wrestler fails the doping test, the one who won silver, will be awarded gold medal.
China’s Zhihui Hou had bagged gold medal in the Saturday bout and also created a new Olympic Record.

Mirabai Chanu

Mirabai Chanu began India’s campaign at Tokyo Olympics as she bagged silver in the Women’s 49kg category at Tokyo International Forum.

Mirabai Chanu is the second Indian weightlifter to win an Olympic medal after Karnam Malleswari. Latter won bronze in the 69 kg category at 2000 Sydney Games.
