Virat Kohli returns to RCB with the possibility of leading the side, Know More…

RCB’s no. 1 superstar, Virat Kohli is reportedly returning to the Indian Premier League 2025 albeit wearing the captain’s armband.

New Delhi: RCB’s no. 1 superstar, Virat Kohli is reportedly returning to the Indian Premier League 2025 albeit wearing the captain’s armband. Kohli had stepped down from the role of captaincy ahead of the IPL 2022 and was succeeded by former South African cricketer Faf du Plessis. However, now it looks like the role of captaincy will be returned to Kohli once again.

RCB has been one of the most unlucky teams of the IPL since its inception in 2008. The Karnataka-based franchise has been runner-up on three occasions. Under Du Plessis, RCB twice reached the playoffs in three seasons and once finished sixth.

RCB’s IPL fortunes seem to remain stagnant throughout the years. Naturally, a change in captaincy can act as a last-ditch effort to make a dramatic U-turn in IPL.

Kohli’s reaction to a renewed captaincy

Kohli led RCB from 2013 to 2021 before quitting. However, the franchise has turned back to its talisman as per a report in The Times of India with 40-year-old Du Plessis nearing the end of his playing career. Under Kohli, the team made it to the final in 2016 but was bested by Sunrisers Hyderabad in the title clash.

Interestingly, there was a point in Virat’s career when many rumours were floated around the IPL circuit that after a string of poor performances, Kohli decided to leave RCB for good. Kohli revealed the fact that he’s thought about playing for another team. However, the right-hand batsman has not yet made the decision to change his IPL team yet.

Speaking about the decision to stick with RCB, King Kohli remarked:

What this franchise (RCB) has given me in terms of opportunity in the first three years and believed in me, that is the most special thing because as I said there were many teams who had the opportunity but they didn’t back me, they didn’t believe in me…
