New Delhi: The wait for India’s head coach is finally over as Gautam Gambhir is unveiled as the new coach of the Indian cricket team. India’s former head coach Rahul Dravid recently stepped down from his coaching responsibilities after leading the men in blue to a memorable T20 World Cup win in 2024.
Under Dravid, the Indian team managed to play in the finals of the World Test Championship, the 50-over ODI World and the 2024 T20. However, like every beautiful story has an end, this partnership between Rahul and Team India has now come to an end. As India moves to the next chapter of the cricketing transition, it will be interesting to see how the ‘GG era’ changes things.

Gautam Gambhir applauded the officials for his appointment as the head coach as he took to his social media handle X (formerly Twitter) and posted “India is my identity and serving my country has been the greatest privilege of my life…”

Interestingly, before taking up a coaching role for Team India, Gambhir had played an instrumental role in taking the KKR to the finals of the 2024 IPL Finals, eventually winning the championship. On the other hand, GG had done a fine job as a mentor for LSG as well, taking them through to the playoffs of the IPL.
Many experts feel that the transition for Gambhir will be smooth. Currently, he has a bunch of players who have turned out to be match-winners for the team followed by a chance to go to a third consecutive WTC Finals. The only thing the players need is a strong leadership which Gautam brings himself on the table.
