The students with placards also raised slogans like 'Governor Go Back". Some of them also marked their protest against the National Register of Citizens (NRC), National Population Register (NPR) and Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
Azad also participated in a public meeting organised by the All India Dalit Muslim Adivasi Progressive Front at Crystal Garden in Mehdipatnam.
"The classification made by the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019 is arbitrary and devoid of any legal basis in so far as it covers certain persons belonging to few specific religions i.e. Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Christian and Parsis while excluding Muslims," the plea stated.
"Government removed PAN ID details this time as in earlier data collection process, several people were found to be hesitating in giving these type of details. Discussions will be held on several issues including the amended Citizenship Act, National Population Register (NPR), National Register of Citizens (NRC), and the violence in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) during the meeting scheduled to be held in Parliament annexe at 2 pm.
Union Cabinet on December 24 approved a proposal to update NPR. The NPR was discussed thoroughly at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The final list of NRC was published in Assam, Karatarpur Corridor was opened and the triple talaq bill passed. BJP and Shiv Sena sparred over government formation in Maharashtra and the BJP saw a dent in its winning streak by losing the Jharkhand assembly polls.
NPR snowballed into conspiracy after Opposition parties alleged that NPR is the first step towards the creation of the National Register Citizens (NRIC). However, Union Home Minister Amit Shah denied any link between the two exercises.
"Demonetisation caused problems for small businesses. Further, the businesses are closing down due to the imposition of GST. The economy has reached the ICU. For all this, BJP is responsible," he said.
A set of documents in public domain reveal that National Population Register (NPR) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) was apparently conceived and launched by the UPA government.
