Jammu and Kashmir Police took to Twitter and informed that the area has been cordoned off and manhunt has been launched to nab the attacker.
General Officer Commanding (GOC) Chinar Corps had said that Pakistan has been making efforts to misguide the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Our security forces have once again displayed utmost bravery and professionalism. Thanks to their alertness, they have defeated a nefarious plot to target grassroots level democratic exercises in Jammu and Kashmir,” PM Modi tweeted.
According to officials, the Jammu-Srinagar national highway was closed in view of the encounter. Security has also been tightened in the Nagrota area.
"Indian Army troops shot down a Pakistan Army quadcopter around 8 am today along Line of Control in Keran sector of Jammu and Kashmir. The Pakistani quadcopter made by Chinese company DJI Mavic 2 Pro model was shot down while it was flying over own position there.
The lockdown was first announced on March 23 to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the country. At least 25 Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists were neutralized by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir in the last three months alone.
Earlier today, one terrorist was killed in the encounter. The operation has been concluded and arms and ammunition have been recovered from the site.
A search operation launched by security forces is underway. No casualties or injuries have been reported yet.
