Alakh Pandey, the CEO of PhysicsWallah: Rejected a salary of Rs 75 crore while building a firm worth over Rs 8500 crore

The goal was to realise a vision of providing poor children with tools for quality education.

New Delhi: PhysicsWallah, an edtech business, became India’s newest unicorn after raising $100 million (about Rs 777 crore) in investment. The company, which has a market capitalization of $1 billion (about Rs 8,551 crore), was founded by a young Pandey as a YouTube channel in 2016. He is said to have dropped out of college and returned to his hometown of Allahabad. Pandey started his work as a 22-year-old physics teacher with a monthly salary of Rs 5,000. On his road to becoming a unicorn, he reportedly rejected down a large job offer from another ed-tech startup, Unacademy, with a salary of Rs 75 crore.
