Viral video claims Electricity bill be waived off across the country… Here is Fact Check

The claims looked suspicions in first look and when we probed it further, we found it to be totally fake and false claim.

New Delhi: A viral video circulating on social media platforms recently claimed that the government will bring an electricity waiver scheme from September 1 for all the citizens across the country.

A video circulating on YouTube claimed that government will waive off everyone’s electricity bill from September this year under a new scheme. The video claimed that government will introduce a Power Bill Waiver 2020 scheme under which benefits will be extended to all classes of the society. It also states that people need to add their names in the list in order to avail the benefits announced by the government.

The claims looked suspicions in first look and when we probed it further, we found it to be totally fake and false claim. Press Information Bureau (PIB), a government agency also alerted against any such misleading news, saying that the government hasn’t brought any such scheme.

Power Bill waiver news is fake, misleading

The Press Information Bureau (PIB) dubbed it a misleading video with a fake news. It also dismissed any such speculation in this regard, saying that no such decision has been taken by the government, at the same time alerting people to stay guarded against fake news.
