Ex-Pak foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi arrested in Islamabad

“PTI vice chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi has been illegally arrested once again,” the party’s social media handle posted on X.

New Delhi: Shah Mehmood Qureshi, former Foreign Minister of Pakistan was on Saturday arrested from his residence in Islamabad, local media reported.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi is also Vice-President of Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI).

“PTI vice chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi has been illegally arrested once again,” the party’s social media handle posted on X.

Reports said that he was taken into custody from his residence, by large police contingent. He was subsequently taken to FIA headquarters. His arrest is said to be in connection with Cypher saga, reports said.

His arrest comes just a day after caretaker government took oath of office in Pakistan and further emboldens speculations of Pak Army suppressing its critics, under garb of new dispensation.

It may be noted that former Pak PM is also under arrest over Toshakhana case.

Qureshi was arrested two months ago also, after being charged for ‘inciting violent protests.’

The protests erupted after Imran Khan’s arrest in graft case and Qureshi was accused of instigating protestors to demonstrate against the government. He was subsequently granted bail from Islamabad High Court, however, that got delayed as the former minister refrained from an undertaking that he will engage in further protests.
