Larry King, legendary talk show host, dies at 87

In a career spanning over 50 years, the celebrated anchor Larry King conducted about 50,000 interviews. He also won an Emmy award for lifetime achievement in 2011.

New Delhi: Larry King, the veteran CNN host who became an icon through his non-conformational style of interviews and sartorial sensibilities, has died. He was 87.

King died on Saturday morning at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, according to a statement on his official Twitter account.

An official statement announcing his death said, “With profound sadness, Ora Media announces the death of our co-founder, host and friend Larry King, who passed away this morning at age 87 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles,” the statement said. “For 63 years and across the platforms of radio, television and digital media, Larry’s many thousands of interviews, awards, and global acclaim stand as a testament to his unique and lasting talent as a broadcaster.”

King had survived a major heart attack in 1987. In 2017, he revealed he had been treated for lung cancer, two years later he had an angioplasty and suffered a stroke.

Born in New York City in 1933, King began his career in journalism as a local reporter in Florida.

He rose to global fame with the launch of The Larry King Show in 1978, before moving over to CNN for Larry King Live between 1985 to 2010.
