UN suspends Russia from UNHRC over Ukraine war, India abstains from vote

The decision to suspend Russia from the human rights body comes in wake of war crimes and also over harrowing images of corpses littered on streets in Bucha sparking off global furore.

New Delhi: The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Thursday suspended Russia from its Human Rights body i.e. UNHRC.

The decision to suspend Russia from the human rights body comes in wake of war crimes and also over harrowing images of corpses littered on streets in Bucha sparking off global furore.

A total of 93 countries voted in favour of the draft resolution while 24 countries expressed solidarity with Russia.

India along with 58 countries abstained from vote on the resolution against Russia. Indian government has denounced the brutal killings in Bucha and called for an independent probe to find out the perpetrators of barbaric murders.

Hundreds of civilian residents were found dead on the streets in Bucha, besides their homes, and in mass graves. Ukraine accused Russia of the Bucha massacre. However, Russia has denied the allegations and said that it was Ukrainian propaganda.
