Maurti Suzuki sees a decline sales, retails 1.3 million units

The automaker saw a 7.8% decline in its domestic market in the last fiscal with 1,323,396 units retailed as compared to 2019-20’s retail of 1,436,124 units.

New Delhi: The largest carmaker in India, Maruti Suzuki sold 1,457,861 vehicles in the financial year 2020-21. This figure is 6.7% lower as compared to FY 2019-20. The breakdown of this number includes: domestic sales of 1,323,396 units, 96,139 exported units and sale of 38,326 units to other OEMs.

The automaker saw a 7.8% decline in its domestic market in the last fiscal with 1,323,396 units retailed as compared to 2019-20’s retail of 1,436,124 units. Maruti saw a decline of 5.9% in exports as well with the exports being 96,139 in comparison to 102,171 units exported in 2019-20.

The bright side is automaker saw an increase in sales to other OEMs have as they were up by 53.3% to reach 38,326 units in 2020-21, from 25,002 units which were sold in 2019-20. The automaker sold its models like Baleno and Vitara Brezza to Toyota Kirloskar Motor, as part of their global partnership. Toyota sells the rebadged versions of Baleno and Vitara Brezza as Glanza and Urban Cruiser respectively.

After seeing a gradual recovery in sales from the last festive season, the overall sales in Indian auto industry have remained low, due to various reasons including lockdown, Covid-19 crisis and economic meltdown.

However, as the aftermath of Covid lockdown has seen an increase in the preference towards personal mobility, this has helped the automaker’s gradual recovery.
