Globally, how healthcare workers perished while treating Covid-19 patients, how age mattered?

About 25% of healthcare workers who died were below 50 years of age. Maximum number of paramedics succumbing to this disease belonged to 60-70 age group, a whopping 57%.

When the whole world is grappling with Covid-19 menace with almost thousand lives being lost on daily basis, it’s time to salute the doctors, nurses and healthcare workers who are working overtime to save our life while putting their own at grave risk.

They are rightly called Corona Warriors, as they have been handling this health crisis as frontline workers. Unfortunately, taking the challenge head on took a toll on their health too, with many succumbing to the deadly disease.

Here, we have collated a data of those doctors and healthcare workers from across the world who perished in the line of duty.

An analysis of 155 deaths shows the following age groups:

25-30 — 8
30-35 — 4
40-45 –– 4
45-50 — 9
50-55 — 8
56-60 — 20
61-65 — 27
66-70 — 30
71-75 — 18
76-80 — 7
81-90 — 7
Unknown — 13

33 (21.3%) persons out of 155 were below the age of 55 and 61.3 % were between the age 55-75. 27% people who died were general practitioners, 22% were physicians including chest specialists, 13 % were from surgical and anaesthesia field; 8% were nurses; 7% were administrators; 7% were ER physicians; 5% were dentists, 4% were technicians, 4% were paediatricians and 3% were others.

Post lockdown, most important ones to be saved are the GPS and Physicians as they bear the main burden being in the field.
