In Kerala, District Collector and 2 IGs go in self-quarantine, 7 doctors also quarantined

New Delhi: Kasaragod District Collector D Sajith Babu, IG Vijay Sakhare and IG Ashok Yadav have gone into self-quarantine after a journalist in the city has been tested COVID-19 positive, said Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan.

Sajith Babu had reportedly given an interview to the journalists a few days ago.

“I had given an interview to the journalist on April 19. He has tested positive for coronavirus. Along with me, my driver and gunman have been advised to go into self-quarantine,” Babu told news agency PTI.

Cameraman and other staff members of the media organisation have also asked to go into self-quarantine.

7 doctors in self-quarantine

The chief minister also informed the press about 2 new coronavirus cases in the state, taking the state count to 497. Currently, Kerala has 111 active cases. Of these two cases, one was reported from Malappuram and another from Kasaragod.

Till date, the state has a total of 70 coronavirus hotspots, added the chief minister.

In other reports, 49 staff, including 7 doctors and 16 nurses, of a private hospital have been advised to go into quarantine after two positive cases were reported from Neyyattikara in Thiruvananthapuram, while in another hospital , where the positive patient had taken treatment, 29 health workers are under observation.

Masks made compulsory in public places

Kerala govt has also made masks mandatory in public places and the administration is actively monitoring people for any violation of guidelines.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told press that cases were registered against 954 people on the first day for failing to wear masks.
