Manish Sisodia launches CODE-A-THON campaign for govt school students

It is not about programming, designing, or creating some videos, it is about creating art. It helps you think. That is why it is important to learn to code. Today, I could see how it is enabling our school children to start thinking,” he said.

New Delhi: In a move to promote STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia launched a CODE-A-THON campaign on Thursday.

Speaking at the launch event here, Sisodia quoted Steve Jobs, Co-Founder of Apple Inc., and said: “Coding is a new generation’s liberal art, and everybody should learn computer coding because it teaches you how to think.”

The event was held at Veer Savarkar Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya, Kalkaji. At the launch event, from various students, there were 6 students who presented their animated videos which they made from scratch on their smartphones. The topic of their video included ‘good touch-bad touch’, ‘saving the environment’, ‘Beti padhao, Beti Bachao’ and public awareness about the coronavirus.

“We started the coding project in January this year in collaboration with SheCodes foundation where 870 girl students have been given training till now. Due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, we decided to make it online. Now, we envision this programme to become even bigger,” Sisodia said at the event.

“It is not about programming, designing, or creating some videos, it is about creating art. It helps you think. That is why it is important to learn to code. Today, I could see how it is enabling our school children to start thinking,” he said.
