‘Arrest Leena Mainmekalai’ trends on Twitter over the director’s film poster showing Maa Kaali smoking

In the poster, one can see that the filmmaker, Leena Mainmekalai showed Hindu Goddess Maa Kaali smocking a cigarette.

New Delhi: Amid the killing of two men in Rajasthan’s Udaipur and Maharashtra’s Amaravati over the remark of suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma on the prophet Mohammed, a poster of a documentary film is going viral on social media under the hashtag #arrestleenamanimekalai.

People said on social that the poster hurts the religious sentiments of Hindu followers. In the poster, one can see that the filmmaker, Leena Mainmekalai showed Hindu Goddess Maa Kaali smocking a cigarette.

Sharing the poster on Facebook the director wrote, ”Super Thrilled to share the launch of my recent film today at Aga Khan Museum. A 6 minute excerpt of the film, ”Kaali” will be shown today as part of Aga Khan Museum’s ”Rhythms of Canada”, a week-long festival celebrating the diverse tapestry of Canadian Culture. Entrance to the event and the Museum’s permanent collection Gallery during the festival is free.”

A Twitter user namely SanksP asked the Aga Khan Museum to take the film down immediately. ”This is blasphemy and hurts Hindu religious sentiment,” wrote the user.

”Every day Hindu religiohn is mocked, is government, testing our patience??,” wrote a Twitter user namely Chandra Prakash Sing.

He further appealed the Home Minister Amit Shah and PMO India to take action. ”Please don’t forgot how we were questioned for hurting religious sentiments & needful action must be taken,” added another user.

”Ashamed of you…maa Kaali will punish you for your act. You won’t be pardoned for mocking the goddess,” said another user in Hindi.
