The 21-year-old Harnaaz Sandhu has made the nation proud by bringing the Miss Universe crown home 21 years after Lara Dutta won the title in 2000.

Sushmita Sen was the first to win the title while representing India in the 43rd Miss Universe pageant, held on 21 May 1994 at the Plenary Hall of the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay, Philippines. Sen defeated 77 contenders during the contest to win the crown.
