AAP MP Sanjay Singh suspended from Rajya Sabha, for remainder of Monsoon Session

The action against Sanjay Singh came on the motion moved by Union Minister & Leader of House Piyush Goyal.

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) lawmaker Sanjay Singh was on Monday suspended from Rajya Sabha, for the remainder of Monsoon Session of Parliament. Rajya Sabha chairman Jagdeep Dhankhad ordered his suspension during Opposition’s protest over Manipur horror.

The AAP MP was reportedly violating directions of the chair and despite repeated warnings, went to the well of house.

The House was also adjourned till 2 PM, following ruckus by the Opposition over Manipur issue. Opposition parties are demanding Prime Minister’s statement over abject ‘failure of law & horrendous treatment of women in Manipur’, as the videos of two women paraded naked created widespread outrage across the nation.

The action against Sanjay Singh came on the motion moved by Union Minister & Leader of House Piyush Goyal. The Rajya Sabha chairman sought the approval of House for the motion and ordered his suspension for ‘repeatedly violating directive of the Chair”.

Notably, AAP member Sanjay Singh was cautioned by the Chairman last week also for ‘creating uproar & commotion’ in the House over proposed bill to replace Centre’s ordinance for control of services in Delhi.

Dhankhar had cautioned the AAP MP last week and said that he will be forced to name the leader, if they don’t pay heed to his advice.

AAP, along with other Opposition parties has been vociferous in cornering the government over Manipur incident and demanding debate on the issue.

The government has maintained that it is open to discuss the Manipur issue and rather blamed the Opposition of blocking it and misleading the public.
