Ahead of ED appearance, Twitter abuzz with ‘sympathy for Sonia’ talk; will ecosystem be part of it?

New Delhi: Congress leader Sonia Gandhi has to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on July 21 for questioning in connection with the National Herald newspaper-linked money-laundering case. A day ahead of the questioning, people on social media said Sonia Gandhi will again miss the date, citing her ill health. Notably, this is the third summon of the ED to the Congress leader.

”Congress leaders are hinting journalists that to gain Sympathy… Sonia Gandhi may do drama of being sick during ED questioning on National Herald Scam. Expect ecosystem Journalists to tweet/report on the same lines. Keep a watch on them,” wrote a user on Twitter.

A user namely Mohit Gulati said, ”Sonia ji will fall sick tomorrow.”

”Even congressi thinks that Sonia will do some theatrics to gain public sympathy and easily get away with ED ! We have already seen this during earlier ED’s summon,” said another user on Twitter.

Gandhi seeks two extension

The probe agency issued the first notice for appearance to the 75-year-old leader on June 8. However, the Congress leader sought an extension as she tested positive for Covid. As a result, the second summons was issued for June 23 but the senior Congress leader again sought another extension.

Congress plans nationwide protest tomorrow

Congress leaders have also planned to hold demonstrations across India on July 21 to show solidarity with Sonia Gandhi. Sharing the development, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said, ”Tomorrow as the political vendetta unleashed by the Modi-Shah duo against our top leadership continues, the entire Congress party across the country will demonstrate its collective solidarity with Smt. Sonia Gandhi in a most telling manner.”
