Amid murmurs of spat in Team India, Virat Kohli’s press conference: Top highlights

New Delhi: As Team India reels under alleged rift between top players Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma, the former on Wednesday addressed media ahead of India’s departure for South Africa.

India’s opening batsman Rohit Sharma was ruled out of 3-match Test series in South Africa due to hamstring injury. Kohli also understood to have pulled out of ODI series, on account of daughter’s birthday. However, no official information was on the matter came.

Here are highlights of what Kohli said:

# I told the BCCI before giving up T20I captaincy. I told them my point of view. The BCCI received it very well. There was no offence. It was received well, saying it’s a progressive step. I told them I will continue as ODI captain & Test captain: Virat Kohli on T20 captaincy

# I told them at that point, clearly, that if the office bearers or the selectors don’t want me to handle either of the responsibility, I am fine with it. I said this clearly when I approached the BCCI to discuss my T20I captaincy: Virat Kohli on T20 captaincy (2/2)

# I am available for selection and was available for selection. As far as I am concerned, I am always available for selection. I am available for ODIs and I was always keen to play: Virat Kohli, to ANI, when asked if he is available for the ODI series against South Africa

# I have been absolutely honest to the job. That’s my assessment of the limited-overs captaincy. You know how to perform and it’s just about understand the roles and making sure I perform to the best of the abilities.

# There was no communication with the BCCI. The chief selector discussed the Test team. Before ending the call, I was told that I will not be ODI captain. Which is fine.

Kohli rules out rift with Rohit Sharma
