New Delhi: The Central Crime Branch probing the August 11 violence in Bengaluru filed a preliminary chargesheet and named former Congress mayor R Sampath Raj as an accused. It also blamed Congress corporator of Pulakeshinagar, Abdul Rakeeb Zakir in the 850 page preliminary chargesheet.

Now , a Times Now report claims that it was a hatched plot for which Congress leaders sought help from SDPI to target the house of their own party’s dalit leader Akhanda Srinivas Murthy.

“Sampath Raj used SDPI to achieve his political will and incited the Muslim community in the area to go on a rampage,” the channel reports citing 694-page chargehsheet.

The plot was hatched three months before in May 2020 at DJ Halli and Congress leaders, namely Raj and Corporator AR Zakir were looking for an opportunity to channelize people’s anger towards Murthy.

The inflammable post by Murthy’s relative gave the ‘conspirators’ a chance and they used it to full potential to incite riots in the city.

Bengaluru Police believe that the mob had the intention to ‘murder’ Murthy even as AR Zakir was conspiring to ‘politically finish’ Murthy.

Pulakeshi Nagar MLA Akhanda Srinivasa Murthy’s residence and a police station at D J Halli were among those targeted by the angry mob. The house of the MLA, who was not at home at the time, was allegedly set on fire.

The rioters also torched many police and private vehicles, badly damaged the house and looted the belongings of MLA Murthy and those of his sister. So far, 421 people have been arrested, including the Social Democratic Party of India leader Muzammil Pasha.
