Kanhaiya lal killing probe: NIA detains Bihar man Munawar from Hyderabad

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) issued a notice to a 36-year-old resident of Bhagalpur district of Bihar Mohammed Munawar Hussain Asrafi in connection with the killing of tailor Kanhaiya Lal at Udaipur. 

New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) issued a notice to a 36-year-old resident of Bhagalpur district of Bihar Mohammed Munawar Hussain Asrafi in connection with the killing of tailor Kanhaiya Lal at Udaipur. He was detained from the Santosh Nagar area of Hyderabad on Wednesday.

He was reportedly running an Islamic seminary and Tawheed centre for a long time. NIA also conducted a search at his house. As per the notice, Asrafi has to appear before the Superintendent of Police, NIA at Jaipur on July 14.

According to the media reports, one of the accused in the Kanhaiya Lal murder case phoned him. After detaining him, NIA questioned him about the phone call.

Kanhaiya Lal, a 40-year-old tailor based in Rajashtan’s Udaipur, was murdered on June 28 for allegedly sharing a social media post in support of suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharam who made a controversial comment on Prophet Muhammad. It is reported that Lal received death threats from various sources before he was murdered at his shop by two youths using a cleaver.

The accused identified as Mohammed Riyaz Akhtar and Mohammed Ghous also captured the video of the incident on a camera to release it on social media.

In the video, they claimed to avenge the insult to Islam. Moreover, they gave death threats to the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi.
