Bloody shootout in UP’s Chitrakoot jail: Gangster Mukhtar Ansari’s aide shot dead

According to jailor SP Tripathi, Anshu Dixit snatched the service revolver of a jail staff when the official intervened in the argument between the inmates. The inmate then shot dead Merajuddin Ali and Mukim Kala.

New Delhi: In a surprising turn of events, a bloody gang war broke out in Chitrakoot jail of Uttar Pradesh resulting in death of 3 gangsters including an aide of Mukhtar Ansari.

Gangster-turned-MLA Mukhtar Ansari’s aide Merajuddin was killed in the bloody shootout that broke out in the jail premises on Friday.

Other two killed in clashes include Mukim Kala and Anshu Dikshit, both with past criminal record.

The incident took place after the inmates clashed and one of them — Anshu Dikshit shot dead the other two prisoners — Merajuddin and Mukim Kala. Anshu Dikshit was later killed in exchange of fire with jail officials.

According to jailor SP Tripathi, Anshu Dixit snatched the service revolver of a jail staff when the official intervened in the argument between the inmates. The inmate then shot dead Merajuddin Ali and Mukim Kala. He also held five other prisoners at gunpoint and threatened to kill them, he said.

Following the shootout in jail, DM and Chitrakoot SP were informed. They reached the prison and asked Anshu Dikshit to surrender. When he refused to surrender, gunbattle ensued in which he was killed.

Mukhtar Ansari’s aide Merajuddin Ali brought to jail on Mar 20

Mukhtar Ansari’s aide Merajuddin Ali was shifted to Chitrakoot from Varanasi jail on March 20, while Kala came to the Ragauli jail on May 7 from Saharanpur.

Dixit had been lodged in the jail since December 8, 2019, jail officials said. Dixit was a contract killer who had worked for gangster Munna Bajrangi in the past.

The situation inside the jail is now under control, officials said.
