New Delhi: In a brazen arrogance & display of power, Jayanarayan Mishra, a senior BJP legislator in Odisha abused, pushed & physically assaulted a woman police officer on duty. The incident took place on Wednesday when BJP workers led by him were protesting in Sambalpur.

The senior BJP leader, who is the Leader of Opposition in Odisha Assembly, has landed in soup after his misbehavior & ‘slapping’ of the woman cop was caught on camera & also landed on social media. Odisha police has registered a case against the legislator after Anita Pradhan, inspector-in-charge (IIC) of Dhanupali police station filed complaint against him.

The MLA meanwhile has claimed that the woman cop was demanding bribe and his action a reaction to that.

The woman police, in her complaint said that that the police personnel were trying to restrict a group of BJP protestors as they were marching towards office of Sambalpur district collector. While police was trying to stall the march by ‘unruly group’, the MLA hurled abuses at her and when she protested against use of cuss words against her, the legislator in a fit of rage slapped her.

“Amid vitriolic exchange of words, I was taken aback when the honourable MLA slapped and pushed me. This action coming from someone holding a constitutional post was totally uncalled for,” Pradhan wrote in her complaint.

A couple of videos went viral on social media in which the BJP workers can be seen marching towards district collector’s office and MIshra is also seen shouting at the woman cop.

The BJP had organized protest in the state against rising cases of crime & also killing of a state minister Naba Kishore Das by a police personnel last month.

The video of Odisha LoP’s arrogance & abuse was also shared by BJD MP and Ollywood actor Anubhav Mohanty.

MLA denies charge

The Sambalpur MLA, when confronted by reporters, refused to aceept his wrongdoing and also rubbished charges of abusing female cop. He claimed that it was Dhanupali Police Station Inspector in-charge Anita Pradhan who pushed him.

Dismissing the charges, he said, “I was initially sitting on a chair. When I came to know that our women activists were being mistreated by police, I stood up. The IIC then pushed me saying that I was speaking too much against the police department.”
