New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated a 300-bed COVID-19 hospital at BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur on Monday.

The state government-run medical college already has 200 beds at the super-speciality block dedicated to COVID-19 patients.

The chief minister also inaugurated a bio-safety ‘level -3’ lab (BSL -3), 100 beds PG hostel and a guest house on the occasion. He tweeted congratulations to the BRD Medical College authority for the work they were doing.

“I heartily thank the public representatives, local administration and BRD Medical College administration present in the inauguration program of 300 beds dedicated COVID Hospital, 100 beds PG hostels, BSL-3 lab and guest house in Gorakhpur,” tweeted the Chief Minister Office in Hindi.

Adityanath said, “I feel happy to dedicate this 300-bed dedicated COVID Hospital to the people of Purvanchal.”

“We are all set to defeat novel coronavirus as we defeated encephalitis which was taking a huge number of lives for the last 40 years and we are successful in controlling 95 per deaths by encephalitis,” the chief minister said.

“Doctors, nurses, paramedical staff and technicians working in isolation ward during COVID-19 live in the institutional quarantine instead of going straight to their homes. With this view, facilities dedicated to BRD Medical College will prove effective in the fight against coronavirus,” added the Chief Minister.

According to the Union Health Ministry, Uttar Pradesh has 61,625 active cases, 2,00,738 cured/recovered/migrated and 3,920 deaths as of September 7.

Yogi pushes for 2 lakh Covid-19 tests/day

Meanwhile, the chief minister has directed the health officials to increase the testing rate of COVID-19 up to 2 lakh per day in the state. So far, the state has tested over 50 lakh samples since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

On Wednesday, UP Covid team had collected samples of Uttar Pradesh health team tested 1, 38, 378 samples for testing in 24 hours, taking the total tally of testing to 5, 08, 025 in the state.

Out of over 50 lakh samples, 2, 40, 926 samples were tested in government laboratories through RT-PCR and CB-NAAT method, 1, 50, 883 in private laboratories, 23, 53, 460 samples have been tested through Antigen testing, 42, 950 through TRUENAT method at medical colleges, 83, 367 at district hospitals and 40, 119 samples at private laboratories, said a report.
