CM Yogi recounts Balinee Milk Producer Association’s success story at World Dairy Summit

In his address at the International Dairy Federation World Dairy Summit, the Chief Minister said, “Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and with the support of the Government of India, Uttar Pradesh government is striving hard to achieve self-reliance of its farmers and livestock farmers while ensuring better care for the livestock. There is a favourable environment for investment in the dairy sector.”

Yogi Adityanath added that the government will also create awareness about the best practices of dairy sector in different countries of the world among the farmers of the state. A number of stakeholders, entrepreneurs, experts, farmers and policy-makers of the dairy sector of the country and abroad were present at the event.

Appreciating the efforts of the Balinee Milk Producer Company run by the women self-help groups in Bundelkhand, the Chief Minister said, “Presently 1.35 lakh liters of milk is collected per day, with an annual turnover of around Rs 150 crore, with a net profit of Rs 13 crore. This organisation works in 6 districts of Bundelkhand with district Jhansi as the centre.”

The company has as many as 41,000 members collecting milk in 795 villages. Milk producer organisations like Balinee have a huge contribution towards achieving the goal of self-reliance in the dairy sector, he remarked.

Informing further, the CM said that four more institutions like Balinee are functional in the state, strengthening the dairy sector in different areas. “In partnership with the National Dairy Board, a Greenfield Dairy Plant is operating in Varanasi. A bio plant of 10,000 cubic metre capacity is also being set up on the premises of Milk Union Varanasi.”

The chief minister said that the Global Investors Summit is scheduled to take place in the state in January, 2023, adding, “Through the event, the government aims to bring changes to the lives of farmers and livestock farmers associated with the dairy sector, create employment and expand the possibilities of investment.”

Highlighting the efforts made by the government for protection of cows, the Chief Minister said that more than 6,600 cow shelters are operating in the state. Under the ‘Sahbhagita Yojna’, 1.50 lakh cows have been provided to farmers and livestock farmers and a certain amount is also being given for the protection of these animals.

The CM mentioned that a total of 84 lakh cattle have been vaccinated in the state, praising the special vaccination campaign undertaken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to protect animals from scabies and mouth disease and terming it as “effective.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the International Dairy Federation World Dairy Conference (IDF WDS) 2022 held at India Expo Center & Mart, Greater Noida on Monday. The four-day long IDF WDS-2022 conference is being attended by Indian dairy stakeholders from across the world, including industry leaders, experts, farmers and policy makers. The conference focused on the theme ‘Dairy for Nutrition and Livelihoods’.
