Congress cheques bounce, family of raped Dalit sisters forced to run from pillar to post

Reports suggest that the cheque given by Congress party to family of the victims has bounced either due to lack of funds or sign mismatch.

New Delhi: The gruesome murder & rape of two sisters from the Dalit community in UP’s Lakhimpur district on September 14, 2022 sparked national anger & outrage. Though the rapists namely Junaid, Sohail, Arif, Hafiz, Chhote, and Karimuddin were arrested soon after the incident and are currently behind bars, a cheque bounce incident has brought to the fore how politicians ‘exploit’ people’s sensitivities for political gains.

Reports suggest that the cheque given by Congress party to family of the victims has bounced either due to lack of funds or sign mismatch. The family has been left to fend for themselves and they are now running from pillar to post to get this financial help ‘encashed’.

The Dalit sisters were founded hanging from a tree allegedly after being violated by a group of men. Owing to the sensitivity of the matter, many political leaders paid visits to the bereaved family & paid their condolences.

bounced cheques

Though, the politicians ‘earned their share of fame’ by visiting the victim’s home but now it’s the family that is bearing the hardship & also the mental agony due to this. The victim’s parents & brothers say all the cheques given to them as financial help has bounced, including UP Congress Committee’s cheque for Rs 2 lakh.

According to a Dainik Bhaskar report, Congress MLA Virendra Chaudhary gave Rs 1 lakh cheque and UP Congress Committee gave a cheque of Rs 2 lakh. However, the cheque from the Congress party bounced allegedly due to lack of funds while the party MLA’s cheque was rejected due to sign mismatch. Also, reports suggest that the monetary support of Rs 25 lakh announced by the state government is yet to reach the family.
