New Delhi: A case was on Sunday lodged against Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee after he stoked a controversy by bringing up Sita, Ram and Hathras rape victim at a rally.
While addressing a rally in West Bengal on Saturday, the TMC MP claimed that Sita told Lord Ram it was luck that she was abducted by Ravana and not by his “chelas” or else her fate would have been the same as the Hathras victim. The video soon went viral on social media.
An FIR was registered against the TMC MP in Golabari police station of Howrah district on Sunday.

Here is who said what:
His statement is wrong. TMC likes appeasement politics of West Bengal. So he’s insulting our tradition, Ramayan & Mahabharat which we read right from our childhood. People will give him a reply in 2021: Locket Chatterjee, BJP on TMC’s Kalyan Banerjee’s statement on goddess Sita pic.twitter.com/HFKQnzDN8c
