New Delhi: History-sheeter Vikas Dubey was arrested from outside the Mahakal Temple in Ujjain on Thursday morning, a week after he killed 8 policemen in an ambush on a police team in Kanpur.

Vikas Dubey’s mother Sarla Devi reacting to the arrest of the dreaded gangster said, My son has been saved by lord Mahakal. He used to visit Ujjain Mahakal Temple every year as his in-laws are in Madhya Pradesh. It doesn’t matter what I say, the govt is going to do what is appropriate.”

Talking about the gangster’s political links, Sarla Devi said that he was ‘with the Samajwadi Party (SP) these days’.

Sources said that Vikas Dubey was spotted at Ujjain’s Mahakal when the Police recognized and arrested him. He is currently in custody. As per the latest information, UP CM Yogi Adityanath has spoken to MP counterpart Shivraj Singh Chouhan seeking safe and early transfer. He is also likely to be handed over to the Uttar Pradesh police, following an appearance in court at 12:30 pm.
Dubey had been eluding the police since the past one week and though four dozen teams of Special Task Force and state police were chasing him, they could not nab him.
