New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on visit to Andhra Pradesh, met the family of noted freedom fighter late Pasala Krishna Murthy on Monday and sought their blessings.

The Prime Minister was in Bhimavaram district of Andhra to attend the 125th birth anniversary celebrations of freedom fighter Alluri Sitaram Raju, also known as Manyam Dora. He unveiled the 30-feet statue of revolutionary freedom fighter.

Known for his penchant for paying special tributes to the freedom fighters, PM Modi met the daughter of Pasala Krishna Murthy and sought her blessings. The 90-year-old Pasala Krishna Bharati is the daughter of freedom fighter Pasala Krishna Murthy. PM Modi met Ms Bharati, bound on her wheelchair and also sought blessings from her.

Pasala Krishna Murthy, born in 1900 in Tadepalligudem taluka of West Godavari district was a devout Gandhian who took part in several movements including Salt Satyagraha Aandolan. He was also sentenced to 1 year imprisonment. He had joined the Congress party alongwith wife in 1921 and passed away in 1978.

Later in the day, PM Modi will also visit Gandhinagar in Gujarat to inaugurate the Digital India Week 2022.
