New Delhi: Vinod Kumar Mishra, a police inspector in Kanpur district of Uttar Pradesh has been suspended for mercilessly raining lathi on a man with child in his lap. The act of police excesses came to light after video of the incident went viral on social media. The inspector has been suspended by ADG of Kanpur Zone.
In the video, the person could be seen trying to evade the police lashes as it could have hit the child. He kept appealing to policemen but his request went in vain. In the video, policemen could be seen even trying to snatch the toddler away from him. Kanpur police is receiving severe flak for this insensitive and oppressive act.
The incident was flagged by BJP MP Varun Gandhi. Tweeting the video, he wrote, “A strong law and order system should evoke fear of law, not of the police.”

The police claimed that the person being thrashed in the video was creating chaos in the hospital along with his brother and hence police action was taken.
SDM Vagish Shukla however denied that there was any lathi-charge. Kanpur SP told the media that a probe has been lodged and will be probed by ASP.
According to a leading portal, the police resorted to lathicharge to disperse protestors at the hospital. The hospital employees were protesting against excavation which was going on in adjacent premises and was adding to dirt & dust in the medical facility.
Another report said that chaos happened because of dharna by Group D staff members of the hospital, who were protesting against the administration. Hospital staff was peeved over their demands not being met.
