Manipur Assembly Election Results 2022: Winners, Losers and Vote percentage

N Biren Singh, who was a former minister in the Congress government, took oath as the CM of the coalition government in the state in 2017

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is gearing to form government in North-Eastern state Manipur for second consecutive term. Repeating its 2017 performance, the party has won the 32 seats, reaching the half-way mark on its own. On the other hand, the rival parties have been reduced to single digits.

This year, the BJP went solo and contested all seats alone. It won 32 seats while Cngress bagged 5 seats and the National People’s Party (NPP) won 7 seats. Other parties including the Janata Dal (United) won 6 seats and the Naga People’s Front (5) The Kuki People’s Alliance (2) and Independents bagged three seats.

In terms of vote share too, the BJP secured a whopping 37.83 per cent while Congress got 16.83 per cent.

Congress fought the elections in alliance with 6 political parties and named it Manipur Progressive Secular Alliance (MPSA). The coalition partners in MPSA include Congress, Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India (Marxist), Forward Bloc, Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) and Janata Dal (Secular).

Chief Minister N Biren Singh won the polls by a margin of 24,814 votes. Congress leader Okram Ibobi Singh won by 15085 votes from the Thoubal constituency seat. He fought against BJP’s Leitanthem Basanta Singh.

Exit Poll on Manipur Polls 2022

The India Today-Axis My India Exit Poll has predicted a whopping 33-34 seats for the BJP, a rare feat for the saffron party in North-Eastern state. The magic figure for the 60 member assembly is 31, therefore, party looks well within reach to form government on its own. Other Exit polls like India TV-Ground Zero Research, ABP-C Voter Survey and P Marq have projected BJP to win 40-60% of the total seats. The numbers vary from 23 to 38.

However, many political leaders and experts have questioned the poll projections, basing their argument on basis of previous exit polls in the state.

In 2017, the India Today Axis My India survey predicted 16-22 seats for BJP and 30-36 seats for Congress. Had that turned out to be true, Congress could have easily formed govt with 28 seats but it was eventually BJP which formed govt despite winning 21 seats. BJP struck alliance with regional allies like Conrad Sangma’s National People’s Party (NPP) & Nagaland’s Naga People’s Front (NPF) and formed government that lasted full 5 years.
