New Delhi: After Union Cabinet on Wednesday passed a proposal to raise the legal age of marriage for women from 18 to 21 years, the move has been welcomed by one and all.
This comes a year after PM Modi announced his plan to increase the legal age of marriage for women from 18 to 21.
The clearance of the proposal is totally based on recommendations submitted to NITI Aayog in December 2020 by the Centre’s task force.
Earlier, the legal age of marriage for women was 18 and 21 for men.

Read it.. may be you will get the point.
Raising age isn’t solution. You need to educate society. Mainly underage marriage is held by poor families or uneducated families.#MarriageAge pic.twitter.com/SXu64oG40G— sam sameer samrat ♨️سیم سمیر اسمارٹ (@mesameersamrat) December 16, 2021
