New Delhi: New Zealand High Commission in New Delhi on Sunday tweeted an appeal to the youth wing of the opposition Congress for medical oxygen amid the coronavirus crisis in India.

High Commission quickly deleted the tweet as many wondered that they had come under government pressure to do so as the Congress splashed photos on social media of its activists delivering the cylinders anyway.

High Commission issued the clarification after several social media users criticised the Centre for failing to help even foreign diplomats in Delhi.

The youth congress workers have reached the high commission office with an oxygen cylinder updated Shrinivas BV on Twitter by sharing pictures.

“We have reached New Zealand High Commission with oxygen cylinders. Please open the gates and save a soul on time. #SOSIYC,” he wrote on Twitter.

The Ministry of External Affairs said that it is in touch with all High Commissions and embassies and responding to their medical demands.

In a statement, the foreign ministry said that it was in touch with the High Commissions and was responding to their medical demands.

“The Chief of Protocol and Heads of Divisions are in continuous touch with all High Commissions/ Embassies and MEA is responding to their medical demands, especially those related to COVID. This includes facilitating their hospital treatment. Given the pandemic situation, all are urged not to hoard essential supplies, including oxygen,” the statement read.
