New Delhi: Proposed celebration of ‘Cow Hug Day’ on February 14 stands withdrawn, the Animal Welfare Board of India said in a notification today.

The move to withdraw the appeal to celebrate February 14 as ‘Cow Hug Day’ comes on back of vociferous protests by Opposition and also backlash on social media.

The Animal Welfare Board of India, which comes under Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairy & Fisheries, had issued this appeal on February 6, 2023.

While issuing an appeal, the body had asked cow lovers to celebrate the day showing solidarity with cows as it will bring ‘emotional richness’ and will also increase ‘collective happiness’

Highly critical of Western dazzle & influence, it had said that the vedic traditions almost ‘on verge of extinction’ due to dazzle of Western Culture over time.”
